Neon Angel
Rating: 4/5 - (good one to come back to every so often, but not for a monthly re-read)
This one is also a memoir, but of someone who was actually famous. If anyone has ever heard of The Runaways they probably immediately think of Joan Jett and often forget the lead singer - Cherie Currie. This is her story, through her eyes. It accentuates the glamour of rock and roll and also the ferocity and cruelty of it, and how fast fame can fade. It is literally so absorbing, even if at times it's unrelatable. It is nice sometimes, to see an unbiased account of celebrity and the entertainment industry without the reality being glossed over.
Favourite Quote: "Sometimes it’s easier to pretend that something is not happening rather than deal with it in the cold light of day. I was learning to be very good at that. Sometimes I felt that there were too many painful things in this worldand if I thought about them all, my heart might break in two."
